Nelson Elliott, a Mannington, West Virginia, teacher and football coach, died. "A great sadness to hear of the passing of my college defensive line coach Nelson Elliott," he wrote on social media on March 28, 2023. His cause of death was not disclosed.

Nelson Elliott was a graduate of La Sierra High School and lived in the town of Mannington, which is located in the state of West Virginia. He also went to school at the University of California, Riverside after getting his degree from West Virginia University. During the course of his lengthy teaching career at North Marion High School, which began in 1985, Nelson Elliott gained prior experience in the role of a coach. During his coaching career spanning more than 30 years, Elliott has worked as a baseball and football coach at North Marion and as a football coach at Fairmont State. All of these stints took place in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was employed by the Marion County Board of Education as a math instructor.
